The Korea University Culture Collection (KUC) is a nonprofit fungal resource center which is focused on the acquisition, production, preservation and distribution of standard reference microorganisms for research and development in the biotechnology. Fungi were collected from a variety of habitats in Korea, such as wood and soil in forest or contaminated environment and they were isolated and identified since the end of the 1990s with assignment of GenBank accession numbers. Currently, Over 2,000 fungal isolates including Basidiomycota, Ascomycota, and Zygomycota were deposited in sterile water at 4°C or in deep freezer (-76°C). KUC promotes the success of researches by characterizing microorganisms as well as developing and evaluating assays and techniques for biological remediation and industry of biofuel, bioenergy, biological control and pharmaceutical anti-oxidants by preserving and distributing fungal materials to the public and private sector research communities.
